Hi, I am Chris Cox, based in Rangiora, Canterbury. I started karting in 2005 at the age of 10. Over the years I have competed across the country at most major events with many ups and downs, successes and defeats. I have had experience across almost all KartSport grades and a handful of motorsport car racing grades. I still enjoy karting and seeking to win titles but spend more time now working with drivers to pursue their racing goals. Training still takes me around the country and in some cases overseas. I thoroughly enjoy working with drivers and have had some great success in the process which makes it even more rewarding.
OBJECTIVE
To provide all aspects of kart driver coaching for drivers of all ages, experiences, budgets and goals. To provide this in the most feasible, fun and friendly way to maximize enjoyment, learning and progress.
SKILLS & ABILITIES
Understanding of simple and complex driving techniquesUnderstanding of mental approach to racingUnderstanding of kart setupUnderstanding and assisting the ability of drivers to ‘read the kart’ and feedbackUnderstanding of data acquisition and its role in the development of both driver, chassis and engine tuningAbility to communicate with drivers of all ages and experience
PERSONAL KART DRIVING EXPERIENCE
1x National Champion
2x National Schools Champion
10x South Island Champion
Multiple Championship and round wins across events such as Blossom, Sunbelts, Garden Cities, WPKA Goldstar, Rotax Max Challenge, ProKart, Mainland Series
TRAINING EXPERIENCE
I started coaching in 2008 at a very low level. This was simple training on track to assist fellow competitors to improve. My main coaching role was established around 2011. It takes a lot to understand the principles of coaching but over the years I have certainly learnt the do and don’ts. I have worked with drivers of all ages and levels, whether it be to improve personal best lap times, learn a new track or compete for a title. I have successfully worked alongside drivers to win National and South Island titles. I have coached drivers across almost all New Zealand tracks and a couple of times accompanied drivers to competitions across the ditch. I feel my role as a coach extends to more than simply how to drive. The external aspects, such as, confidence, mental approach, kart setup and more are what makes Karting so challenging but also ultimately rewarding at the end of the day

I have been around karting for 10 years now and it has been a big part of my life. Karting has taken me to all parts of New Zealand and also over the globe racing in the Australian Pro Tour in 2012/2013 and also many Rotax Nationals in Australia too. A highlight was driving at the Rotax Grand Finals in Portugal 2015 and making it to the Finals.
The non-driving side began when I worked for Right Karts in 2014-2015 which kick-started my own karting team for 2016. I have since then done many days teaching kids and adults how to improve their karting skills from on track techniques to maintain their equipment.
The DCR team has had great success over the past 2 years working with many junior and senior drivers to help them become what they are today. Major Highlights would be having one of the most dominant junior teams over the past 2 years winning many National Titles and Rotax Challenge races and also having a senior driver going to the Rotax Grand Finals in 2017.

KartSport has always been a big part of my family’s life with my father racing internationally and then myself and my two brothers carrying that on. I first started driving at the age of 7 but did not get into racing properly until I was 9. Racing has taken us all over the country competing at club and national level. I now have my own team here in New Zealand, Josh Hart Racing.
After winning a few national titles and having the honour of representing New Zealand at the Rotax Max World Final I had the opportunity to go race and live in Europe. I spent 3 years racing over there with the highlight being taking 3 pole positions in a row at the European Championship and finishing 3rd in 2008 and 4th in 2009.
From there my racing took a backward step and I started working more as a mechanic for a factory team. This was an awesome experience where I got to work with some of the best drivers in the world and learnt so much from them. After a few years doing this I started my own team to run drivers in the European Rotax Max Championship. We managed to win with a driver in DD2 Masters in our debut year and took a junior driver from just making the final at the first round to winning heat races at the last round and then go on to win the Rotax Grand Final later that year.
Personal Highlights (driving)
Some drivers I have worked with: Nelson Piquet Jnr, Jeremy Iglesias, Sebastien Buemi, Bas Lammers, Jaime Alguersuari, Jonathan Thonon and Alessandra Manetti.
Highlights from my team this year
From my past, I have worked with some great teams and some of the best drivers in the world that I have learnt so much from. I look forward to using my knowledge to try and help the next generation of karters coming through.

I have been involved in motorsport for my whole life, around hot rods from birth. Then to racing motocross, till the age of eleven when circumstance moved our direction from 2 to 4 wheels.
Then I became immersed in the world of motorsport when my father began crewing and preparing NZ V8’s from 1996 to 2009. This evolved over the years for me from being a tyre changer, car refuelling and cleaner to the later years being a full-time employee at Tracer Motorsports and involved in every facet of the construction of the car to preparation, testing and maintenance.
This led to being introduced to and be involved with several high profile people in the motorsport industry; Paul Pedersen, John McIntyre, Paul Radisich, Tracer Motorsports to name a few as well and some of the world’s leading engineers, Campbell Little and Paul Grimm head engineer for Peugeot world touring cars and involvement in F1. Paul Radisich and Paul Grimm at my time at Tracer Motorsports especially had an influence on my insight into the skills and coaching needed to be competitive and in the world of motorsport, they left nothing to chance. They were always chasing perfection in the engineering of the car, setup and driving. They both said you never stop learning.
Over this period we were involved in karting with myself racing when time allowed at KartSport Bay of Plenty, odd big meeting that fitted into the calendar and crewing and helping run my cousin Daniel Dufty through his junior karting endeavours.
As of 2009 with the changes to the NZV8 landscape with Motorsport NZ, Tracer Motorsports decided it was time for a break from the motorsport scene, this allowed more time to dedicate to Karting and this is when KartZone began its life.
KartZone started in 2009, it was born from a passion for karting and a passion for the technical and mechanical side of the sport. That’s not to say I don’t enjoy the driving side of KartSport, with many years of driving experience. But more the enjoyment of giving a driver the tools, both physically and mentally to enable them to enjoy the sport, no matter the level they choose to compete. Karting is a challenge and an ongoing learning process but has so many rewards when you see a driver or family you have been involved with achieving goals they have set or just even enjoying the sport.
Experience:
• 20 years of motorsport experience. All forms of motorsport from motocross, karting, circuit racing (NZV8, Tranzam), Speedway
• The wide variety of forms of the sport has allowed me to interact with a vast array of people and experience. This has meant to have obtained knowledge and been able to establish what techniques and approaches work the best
• My experience being a coach for karting started around 2002 helping run my cousin in karts. It became quickly evident that there was a lot more to coaching than just the kart setup and driving technique, but the mental and physical side of the sport as well.
• I have found the coaching experience a continual learning process, every person involved in karting is different. What works for some doesn’t for others, and that coaching doesn’t just involve the driving of the kart, but the people or support crew around the driver as they can have a huge influence.
Skills:
• Able to communicate effectively with a wide range of people from age levels, experience or backgrounds.
• In-depth understanding of kart set up, engine building, data and driver techniques as part of everyday business.
• A strong approach to the mental and physical side of the sport having been involved in many forms of motorsport.
• Being a racer, have raced karts for many years, having experienced a lot of situations in karting.

I have been karting for 17 years, during this time I have coached and raced both in New Zealand and overseas.
I enjoy coaching both adult and junior drivers, I believe in recognising strengths and eliminating bad habits, with a “don’t hide behind excuses” approach. I can provide not only driver training but also kart setup and engine building to give them a full package allowing them to reach their best ability.
I enjoy watching them develop and succeed over time which is shown in the results our IKS (International Kart Supplies) team has been accomplishing at many different levels.
My Racing Achievements
- 9x National Sprint Championship Titles
- 3x Rotax Grand Finals (2012,2013,2014)
- I have raced internationally representing NZ in Portugal, USA, Spain and Australia
I have been frequently assisting NZ Junior drivers competing in Australia over the past two seasons which I get huge satisfaction from as the drivers learn a different style of racing.
In 2015 my partner Freya and I purchased International Kart Supplies and are the Sodi Kart distributor for NZ.
I specialise in Vortex, Rotax and KZ2 engine building, chassis set up and driver training. I feel very fortunate to work in the sport which brings me and customers so much enjoyment.
I am a qualified mechanic completing my apprenticeship in 2012.

I have been racing for 26 years and in that time have had the pleasure of helping many karters, both young and old, to reach their potential, both here in New Zealand, and on a world stage. I enjoy sharing my passion with other keen racers and although I still race competitively here, and in America, my main focus now is supporting our WKS Kartstore competitors in every way I can.
I particularly enjoy the kart preparation and maintenance aspect of karting, and am lucky enough to have a kart shop with my father (17 times New Zealand Sprint Champion) that services the local karting community. My partner Tiffany and I spend most weekends at our local track helping out, and we are also keen KartSport Canterbury committee members.
I believe as a team, Tiff and I are especially good at relating to our younger drivers. Karting is such a challenging sport, and it can quite often be frustrating for the competitor and their crew, but with 49 years of karting between us, we are able to draw on our own experiences, both good and bad, to help them overcome any hurdle.
Karting has taken me literally all over the world, and I truly believe it is an amazing sport, not just the 'stepping stone' to cars that it is perceived to be by so many.
I have also raced many forms of cars including TRS, V8 development series in Australia, and Indy Lights in the USA to name a few. In my opinion, Karting is, and has always been, the most enjoyable form of racing.
Career highlights include:
•Winning 13 New Zealand Sprint Championships
•Las Vegas Supernationals winner S4
•All Japan Yamaha Champion
•3rd at the Rotax Grand Finals 2009 & 2010
•NZ Mini Challenge Champion
•Winner of the prestigious Lady Wigram Trophy in TRS
•7 x TRS race winner
•Graduate of the Motorsport New Zealand Elite Acadamy

I have been involved in karting since the age of 8, my parents were looking for a family sport to get into and had to make the choice between sailing (my mother’s sport when she was young) or karting. My father Marty being a petrol head made a wise decision and karting it was.
It snowballed from there with my younger sister Melissa starting not long after me at age 6.
27 years later and working full time in the industry for over 9 years and I wouldn’t change a thing. The experiences, friends I’ve made and comradely had along the way cannot be replaced. I have spent the past 9 years actively involved in Karting, building and developing engines, working with a variety of different chassis, providing trackside support and training drivers. Karting has taken me all over the world to compete and the experience and knowledge I have gained is priceless.
After many successful years behind the wheel, it is time now to step back and invest time into our future karting stars and ensure New Zealand remains on the map as a motorsport icon. I have been lucky enough to already be working with some very talented drivers and look forward to helping in the development of others.
